Comments and Questions

Hi, I would like to know more about the Kathmandu-Lhasa international bus service:
- Could you please provide contacts of travel agents from whom we get obtain tickets? Can we purchase through you?
- Where do we board the bus in KTM?
- What time does the bus arrive in Lhasa on Sunday?
- What sort of accommodation are there on the way (type and costs)?
- Is food available on the way or do we have to bring our own?
- Many on the various forums have said that the bus service hasn't resumed and I couldn't find any official announcements about the resumption of bus service. Could you please suggest where we can find further info/official announcements?

Greatly appreciate your help!

Stephanie

yes, i also can't find more information about the bus, but just found some news report about it. but there are two telephone numbers of the two coach stations in Lhasa, there your questions may be answered, +86 0891 6824268、6947216. by the way, the fees for accomandation are not included in the ticket.

Asked by mosraf uddin ahamed(Bangladesh)

you need to apply to the Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) through travel agencies for travel permit, and then apply for Group Visa to enter Tibet with the Notification of Visa Application issued by TTB. i think you can try to enquire a travel agency in your country.
The bus service from Kathmandu will be active at that time, but it only runs at 10:00 on Fridays.
for the train ticket from Lhasa to Guangzhou, you can buy it when you are in Lhasa.

I think it is easier to buy a train ticket from Lhasa to Xian or Peking, but it will be hard to buy a train ticket from Peking to Lhasa, since you hae to apply for for a Tibet entry Permit first.
As far as I know, you have to join in a tour group to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit and the China visa for your travel to Tibet, you should take part in a tour first.

Can you confirm that the revived Lhasa-Kathmandu bus service is open to tourists / foreigners? If yes, can bus tickets be bought directly or is the intervention of a Chinese travel agency necessary?
