Topic: Land trip to Tibet but starting from within China instead of Nepal

Has anyone done this or have any suggestions on where to find a tour company that does this? Nepal is not exactly safe at the moment and we would like to avoid it. However, I do like the idea of driving into Tibet to slowly get used to the high altitude. Any ideas?
