On Jan.20, Shigatse welcomed the coming of the 2007 Tibetan New Year.

The Tibetan New Year is on the same day as Chinese Lunar New Year this year, Feb.18. However, for the busy time of farming comes earlier in the next year in Shigatse, the people here has the tradition to celebrate the new year ahead of one month.

The first barrel of water is said to be holy, and anyone who can get it is believed to have a good fortune in the next year. so Tibetans there often get up very early to the pools.

They would place the Chemar (the mixture of Chang, dry Yak butter and milk sediments) beside the pools, then they would fill the barrel and finally have some prayer and splash the Chemar to the sky. and they often greet each other with good wishes.

This is some Tibetans who get up at about 3 am and going to get water.
