I went to Tibet for a one month travel in 2003. In one of the hotels in Lhasa, I found the iformation board at the hotel lobby was covered with all kinds of enquiries on travelling with others throughout that region to share the high getting around expenditure. So I think, maybe you can find someone when you arrive there.

Hi,

Could you please help me. I'm planning to go to Tibet this coming May. But I don't have any information. Could you please tell me how you got to Lhasa (through China or Nepal?) and how much money you spent in Tibet.
Thank you for your help

First you must apply a tibet permit, it is required to visit Lhasa and surrounding cities.
It is no so easy for an individual to apply it, maybe you can ask some travel agency for help.

I am writing in response to your wish to go to tibet in 2005. I am a very interested american college student who would like to desirably find a few people of similar age/student status. I feel that such a trip would be most worthwhile if I could stay longer than a month or even a couple months. I talked to someone who went independently through nepal and joined a group once in tibet. I believe he spent a total of six months in Asia. If I were to go, I would take a semester off, and avoid the sensorship and intepreneural control over tibetan buddhist monestaries/etc held by the Chinese govornment as much as possible, although this is obviously quite a feat. As of now, my plans are abstract, but I realize that the time to go is now...before the govornment installs a direct train route from beijing to Lhasa and ALL remnants of authentic culture are gone. I have extensive travel and volunteer experience, and I am very self reliant and hardy, and willing to live out of a backpack as long as I need. Anyone have advice for where to find similarly interested people? Thank you!

Hi, Fred!
Do you mean that you want to be the one of the monastery?
Or maybe I misunderstood your meaning~~
Which monastery will you want to visit?
