 hello,

we are 3 students from austria(europe) and intend to vistit china for one month.

we like to travel around the country individual ( beijing - xian - lanzhou - xining - golmud - lhasa and further on to kathmandu ).
the distance between beijing and golmud we want to do with different public transport.
then we want to go from golmud to lhasa by the new train. but i need a tibet permit called ttb, right?
as i have understood we have to take a tour in tibet from some tour organisations to get this tibet permit (TTB)?
but is it also possible to make an individual tour by ourself? if it is so, where can i get this tibet permit?

i hope you can help us and i am looking forward for a quick answer

I think you can get a permit by yourself. You can handle your information to the branch office of Tibet Tourism Bureau and get one. However, I heard that it is not allowed to travel in Tibet individually. Or you can't stay over certain days as individuals. I am not sure of it.
