 I'm trying to figure out the best way to visit Everest from Lhasa in the last week of Feb, so....
What's a reasonable fare for hiring a driver from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp?

How about rates for a bus from Lhasa to Shigatse and then another bus from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp?

Anybody recommend one route over the other?

It's ok to take a bus from Lhasa to Shigatse and then from Shigatse to Tingri. But it might be not easy to be lifted in Tingri. So it's best to hire a car and driver in Lhasa or Shigatse.

Generally, 4 RMB per km is quite reasonable. But you may find someone cheaper or higher. But remember one thing: you have to pay extra money for the car you hire when entering into Mt. Everest Reserve. About 600~800 RMB.

The general route is Lhasa - Yamdrok Yumtso Lake
- Gyangtse - Shigatse - Sakya - Tingri - Rongbuk Monastery - EBC.
Try to find some partners in Lhasa. So you can share the car and enjoy together.
