Read Captain Cecil Mainprise’s blog http://intotibet1903-04.blogspot.com/. Over the next 18 months he will post letters sent home from General Younghusband's pioneering expedition to Tibet, starting in the Rajput Mess, Alipore Calcutta on 18 November 1903 and continuing on into Tibet and the capital Lahsa. Some 44 letters trace the expedition’s progress across the Talap Pass, into the Chumbi Valley, and on through Phari, Tuna (including a report of the massacre), Gyantse, Karola and then Lahsa. Another half dozen letters record the return.
