Hi there,
We are planning our China trip now and wanna know the info about tibet trains. We are going to arrive at Beijing at Oct.17 and then take a overnight train to Xi'an at Oct. 22. After that we want to head to Lhasa directly. Are there trains available? How about the price? Can we book it in advance? Where can we book it?

As far as I know, there is no direct train run from Xian to Lhasa. But you can try your luck to purchase the tickets.
T27 from Beijing to Lhasa will arrive at Xian at 09.09 and leave at 09.21. T222 from Chongqing to Lhasa will arrive at Xian at 06.12 and leave at 06.27.
You can go to the train station or agencies to buy tickets three to 15 days in advance.

I don't think it's a good idea to take a train at Xian. The tickets will be very very hard to buy. Maybe you can come to Lanzhou or Xining and then take the direct train there.

o, thanks, Cipher and Yoyo. Maybe I should change my itinerary and take the train at Lanzhou or Xining. BTW, which do you think it better, Lanzhou or Xining?

We got our train ticket from Xining to Lhasa thru Quality Tibet at email qualitytibet@gmai.com. You can request them to arrange for you.
