Nowadays, 'Shaolin Kungfu' has become a new topic in China. As the originated place of 'Chinese Kungfu', Shaolin Temple (in Henan Province) has walked out of the quiet and deep mountains and appeared in our sight gradually. From the holding of international competition for 'Kungfu Star' to the frequent performance on all kinds of suitable occasions accross the world, Shaolin Temple is really developping with the pace of global tendency as what the master of Shaolin Temple, Shi yongxin said. Besides, they also use the advanced communication method such as cellphone and internet to widespread their culture. For the misunderstanding of the public, A representative of Shaolin had explained it was no surprise, just like the former monks used the ancient Chinese printing tecnique of that time to print the sutras, so why can't these be used then? I think it is reasonable to say so. I think it just fits for their teaching of 'Salvation of all mankind'.

This phenomenon is also nothing new when you travelling in Tibet. monasteries are open for the tourists acturally instead of closed. and some monks also act as Buddhist guides. All these are good for us really I think.

So what is your opinion?

I have also heard of that things. Chinese Wushu is really great. some have appreared in the movie. Jackie Chan,Bruce Lee, Jet Li are well-known. i'd like to see their performances.

Of course, Monasteries have to live themselves, many things have to be done, such as repair of old buildings, protection of cultural relics, etc. They have to contact with outside in some degree. 'Buddha in our mind' is the most important.

Yes, Buddha in the mind is what they believe. What's more, I understand that Buddhism never taught people to be clinging on the ritual. Be good is the only thing Buddha want us to do.

I have got another angle to understand their actions. Lotus, living in the silt but not stained, symbolizes the goal of Tibetan Buddhism. 'Void of the worldly senses' is the highest phase of the cultivation. Perhaps these material things are just a big training for their spirit. if they can still not be tempted by these and be faithful to Buddhism, that's really something.
