We are Singaporeans, party of 4 going for a 7-day tour of Lhasa, Yangpachen, Nyingchi - Tibet around the middle of May 2005 for the first time. There are much to read and digest about these 3 places; and would appreciate some help and tips from friends who had been to Lhasa before to share their real, on-hand personal experiences - Thanks ! Can anyone please advise us at your earliest possible convenience the DO'S and DONT'S in terms of : 1) moving around - from temples to shopping. 2) keeping fit, actions to do and avoid. 3) things or actions requiring special personal attention ( example : beware of pick-pockets especially in/around Barkhor Area ) Thanks to whoever who will be replying the above - Appreciate your kind generosity. |

Hi, you need Tibet Entry permit to visit Tibet! Try not to join fix tour, it is boring, get a legal Tibet Entry Permit and rend a car with driver to travel yourselves. |

Hi Jack Sun 10 Apr 2005 Thanks your prompt reply & advice. Incidentally, we will be joining a so-called "Seat-In Coach " - meaning that the Singapore Travel Agent - has arranged for us to join other packaged group(s) most probably at Lhasa or Chengdu. Well, we are keeping our minds " open " - and hope to experience / adjust / enjoy as best as we can possibly can. Once again, thanks ! |

Hi, a group of Malaysians (14) will be travelling from Chendu-Lhasa-Namsto Lake-Shigatse-Gyantse-Tsedang end of May/early June 05. As mentioned, you need to get a Tibet Travel Permit to get to Lhasa (agent from Chendu can arrange when you purchase tour/ticket from them).Takes about 5-7 days to process. & if you are travelling out of Lhasa to those places mentioned above, you need to have another permit called "Tibet Alien permit". Very important! Remember to bring medication for high altitude sickness. You may feel dizzy, blotted, bad headached, loss of appetite, nausea. Drink lots of water & sometimes coke can help. (I've travelled to other parts of Tibet b4). Sanitation is poor, bring wet tissues. Bring medication for diarrhea, fever, cold, etc. Sun ray is extreme in Tibet. Sunblock, lip balm, caps, sunglasses, cotton long sleeves is recommended. For noon (10-20c) - long sleeves & windbreaker and night heavier jacket (0-15C). My return ticket from Chendu-Lhasa-Chendu is RMB2,960. what about yours? Hope the above info helps. Perhaps c u in Lhasa. |

HiIvy Thanks for your advice on necessities and medication. Our trip cost about Sin$2100 per pax, inclusive of return airfares, full board, all meals (which we hope will be Chinese or Sichuan-style, as we may not be used to their local cuisines & taste ; we do not take beef & mutton ). Ivy, which part of Malaysia are you from ? if you don't mind, perhaps we can exchange more info thru email, my e-addr is : mediaricky@yahoo.com Thanks and best regards Thanks |

Hi, My husband and I, plus our daughter, are going to Tibet this weekend. I've been doing a lot of on-line searches. An excellent site that offers a lot of tips from people who've been there, ranging from restaurants to shopping to packing, is www.virtualtourist.com. Not all tips are very helpful, but you'll be able to pick up enough to get a good feel reading through them. Give it a try. |
