Greatly influenced by its average altitude of 3,000m (9,843 ft) and the monsoons coming from the Indian Ocean, the climate of Nyingchi is pleasantly temperate and humid. The annual average temperature is 8.7 C, with the highest in summer being somewhere between 20 C -30 C and the lowest in winter above -10 C. The climate is a tropical semi-humid one, with annual rainfall as high as 650mm (26 inches) mostly occurring from March to September. However, though weather is not that disruptive to travels to the central Nyingchi, visits to southeastern areas such as Pome and Dzayul are best made from May to June or September to October to avoid mud slides and road collapses which largely happen in the rainy seasons of July and August. Branches of the Agricultural Bank of China can be found in most counties of Nyingchi. In Bayi Town, one can find China Construction Bank and Bank of China where foreign currency may be exchanged. A convenient network of China Post which covers every county in Nyingchi provides various mail services as well as postal banking services. Moreover, with the services of China Telecom and China Mobile, most counties are contactable by telegraph, telephone or mobile phone.
