Karub Ruins
Karub Ruins is located a few miles from Chamdo Town, Tibet, near the border with Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. At an altitude of 3,100 meters (about 9,000 feet) the ruins covers a total area of about 10,000 square meters (about 2.5 acres). Among the ruins, archaeologists have discovered the remnants of thirty-one houses, tens of thousands of pieces of stoneware, spiculas and other artifacts. In addition, animal bones and fragments of millet have been uncovered, indicating that as long ago as four or five thousand years, Tibetan forefathers had settled down and lived a stable life in this mysterious and fertile land. They had learnt to make exquisite stone tools and rough textiles, as well as build houses.
Because of the vast area, good condition and diversity of relics, Karub Ruins are considered by archaeologists and palaeoanthropological researchers to be one of the three most significant aboriginal cultural sites in Tibet. The significance of the discovery of Karub Ruins is that it extends the human history of Tibet to about 5,000 years ago.
