Travel Tips

Climate
Lhasa is the highest city in the world and is the least polluted city in China. However, because of the high altitude, the solar radiation in Lhasa is very fierce. You should use sun glasses and sun screen lotion to block the strong ultraviolet radiation. Winters and springs are quite dry, with strong winds occurring frequently. The rainy season is from June to September, but generally, it rains only during the night. Temperatures vary sharply between day and night. You should take coats whenever you come to Lhasa so that you won't be frozen at night. The best time for visiting Lhasa is from April to October because the summer in Lhasa is usually much cooler than cities in the same latitude.

Fewer people come to visit Lhasa in winter but winter temperatures here are not very low. Snow is rare and sunny days are more frequent than other seasons. If you come to visit Lhasa during the Tibetan New Year , you can participate in a happy and exotic holiday which others cannot enjoy in summers. But remember to bring coats, hats, gloves, sunglasses and sun screen! Mountain Sickness is a problem for many visitors. So you should carry medicines for this condition and do make precautions!

Post and Telecom
You can find China Post in many parts of Lhasa and the largest one is the Lhasa Post and Telecommunication Building in Beijing Xi Lu, east of the Potala Palace . Opening hours are 09:00-20:00 from Monday to Saturday and 10:00-18:00 at Sunday. Some big hotels also provide postal service. Besides the post offices and big hotels, you can also make long distance calls from small stores or telephone boxes on the roadside. Internet cafes are also spreading to every corner of Lhasa. You can find them easily.

Banks
Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China and China Construction Bank all have branches in Lhasa city, but only the Bank of China can provide credit card service. You should carry enough cash while traveling in Tibet. Besides, you can deposit your money in China Post, which has many branches throughout Tibet.

Since Tibet is less developed than metropolis, you should prepare well before arriving. Ask your agent for detailed information. Also remember to respect local customs when you are in Tibet, especially when visiting monasteries and temples.
