Lhasa to Build Two Large Parking Lots in the Central Tourist Areas

Published : 3:02 A.M. EST, Mar 23, 2007
It is reported that Lhasa plans to build two large parking lots in the central tourist areas of the city. This is another step that the government had carried out to alleviate the burden of parking after launching the first modern parking lots during the repair work for the surroundings of Potala Palace.

With the advancement of Tibet tourism, the central tourist areas of Lhasa including Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Norbulingka and Ramoche Monastery demand more for the basic facilities for parking. It is said that one of the parking lots to be built is near Duosenge Road, covering 12,000 square meters (3 acres) and capable for over 270 cars. The other within the new Norbulingka Square admits 150-200 cars. The two parks are expected to be opened in June this year.

In addition, the pedestrian road of Deji North Road will also be repaired to satisfy the needs of parking for local citizens and tourists.
