Mindroling Monastery

Mindroling Monastery was built against a mountain, facing a vast valley. Rugged mountains and clear water enhance the beauty of this monastery.

Mindroling Monastery was originally built in 1676, covering a total area of more than 100,000 square meters (about 25 acres). The paint has flaked off some of the frescos on porches, but you can still enjoy their irresistible beauty. Many images of gods, most of whom with multiple heads and facial expressions ferocious enough to make your hair stand on end, are painted on the main building of Mindroling Monastery. Tibetan Buddhists tradition holds that these strange-looking images serve as guards to fend off attacks from enemies and devils.

In addition, the walls in Mindroling Monastery built of rubbles are of high value in the research of Tibetan architectural arts.
