Lhasa Liuwu Bridge to Run as of Apr. 26th, 2007

With the day-to-night efforts of over 500 workers, 70% of the project of Lhasa Liuwu Bridge has been finished. The bridge approach begins to be paved with cement boards now, and the comprehensive repair work will be carried out in a week. It is predicted that the bridge will be open to the experimental traffic on Apr. 26^th.

According to the Headquarters Principal of Liuwu Bridge Project, the bridge is a national key project which is invested with a total of over 388.5 million CNY. It consists of three parts: the northern overpass, the main bridge and the southern bridge approach, which is designed bidirectional with six tracks, 1,660 m. (about 5446 ft) long and 29 m. (about 95 ft) wide on the whole. The bridge, which leads to Lhasa Railway Station, is the first modernized overpass of Tibet. It also links the two banks of Lhasa River, being a pivot between Lhasa and Liuwu New Area.
