Qinghai-Tibet Railway: Construction on Xining-Golmud Line 2 StartsPublished : 4:02 A.M. EST, Sep 10, 2007 On September 6th, the construction of Xining-Golmud Line 2 of Qinghai-Tibet Railway Started. When finished, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will conclude the history without electrified railway. The existing Xining-Golmud railway was initiated to be built in 1958 and launched in 1984, with a whole length of 834 kilometers (518 miles). To improve the transport capacity, the construction on part of the line 2 was carried out in 2005. This time, the whole section will experience construction and realize electrification. The whole project will proceed for 5 years.
