Wudaoliang

Sayings about Wudaoliang go that: 'you'll cry for dad and mum when getting to Wudaoliang', and 'Nachitai could make you sick while Wudaoliang could possibly kill you'. These imply the scaring natural condition of Wudaoliang. Generally speaking, it will be safe in Tanggula Mountain Pass , the entrance to Tibet if you can pass Wudaoliang.

The altitude here, which is about 4665 m (15,305 ft), is still lower than Kunlun Mountain Pass . However, due to the surrounding high ridges and less vegetation on the ground, the air here can't circulate freely and thus contains a low quantity of oxygen. As such, it is quite easy to catch mountain sickness. In addition, it is also very cold here when even during the hottest July, the average temperature is about 5.5 ℃ (41.9 oF), which is the lowest in the whole of China. Snow usually begins to fall in the early September.

There are restaurants, hostels, hospitals, stores, gas stations and auto repair stands in Wudaoliang. If not feeling well, you can have a rest there.
