Yarlong Cultural Festival
The Yarlong River, rising in the south of the Shannan Region and joining the Yarlung Tsangpo River   at the town of Tsedang, is considered as the symbol of the Shannan Region.  Shannan, the cradle of Tibetan culture, hosts the Yarlong Cultural Festival every July and August. The festival is not only a carnival of Tibetan dances, ballads and operas, but a vivid representation of the profound Tibetan culture.

The festival, organized by the government of Shannan Prefecture since 1992, aims to promote local tourism and introduce the culture of the Yarlong area outside of the region. The one-week-long cultural festival offers song and dance performances, dressing shows, visits to the Yarlong Scenic Area, trade talks, as well as other activities.
