
Lhasa Transportation: Taxi to Charge by Meter from Feb 1st
It is reported that Lhasa taxies are to charge by meter from Feb 1st.
Lhasa taxies used to charge a fixed fee of CNY 10 within the city and more for further distances. To regulate the price, this new policy is carried out. The new charging standard is as follows: CNY 10 for the first 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), and another CNY 2 for every more kilometer (0.6 miles) in the daytime. While from 00:00 to 07:00, the flag-fall price is CNY 11 and the charge for every more kilometer is CNY 2.2.

Tibet to Build Four Hot Travel Routes
It is reported that Tibet is to build four hot travel loop lines, which will connect all top attractions in Lhasa, Nyingchi, Shigatse and Shannan and greatly facilitate the transportation to these regions.
The four lines are respectively as follows: (i) Lhasa - Yamdrok Yumtso Lake - Gyangtse County (Shigatse) - Shigatse - Lhasa; (ii) Lhasa - Nyingchi - Tsedang Town (Shannan) - Lhasa; (iii) Lhasa - Maizhokunggar County (Lhasa) - Zangri County (Shannan) - Tsedang - Lhasa; (iv) Lhasa - Yangpachen - Damxung County (Lhasa) - Lhunzhub County (Lhasa) - Lhasa. Now the first line has been finished completely.

Tibet Weather Forecast: Cold Air, Heavy Wind to Hit Lhasa
According to Lhasa Meteorological Station, in the following days it will mainly be sunny to cloudy in Lhasa, with cold air and heavy wind.
Compared with the same period of past years, it was generally warmer last week in Lhasa. However, yesterday the lowest temperature there dropped to minus 9 oC (15.8 oF). It is estimated that from Dec 20th to 23rd the temperature will be 4 - 6 oC (39.2 - 42.8 oF) lower, and heavy gusts are possible to appear.

Jiuzhaigou Ice-Waterfall Tourist Festival to Unveiled on Jan 9th
It is reported that the 4th Ice-Waterfall Tourist Festival of Jiuzhaigou is to be unveiled on Jan 9, 2008, which will last until Mar 31st next year.
The opening ceremony of the festival will be held in front of the ice waterfall of Zhenzhutan within Jiuzhaigou on Jan 9th. During the festival there will be ice and snow games, photography exhibition, and activities related to the 2008 Olympics and Chinese Spring Festival (Lunar Jan 1st).

Air Routes between Guangzhou and Lhasa, Shangri-la Suspend
It is reported that Southern China has closed the air routes of Guangzhou - Shangri-la and Guangzhou - Shangri-la - Lhasa, which are expected to be recovered during the late January next year.
The two air routes pause because it is the shoulder season of travel now. However, travelers to Tibet and Yunnan can rest assured that it would bring few troubles. Travelers to Yunnan can first take the flight from Guangzhou to Kunming or Lijiang, while those to Tibet can transfer to another flight in Chongqing or Chengdu. Both of them are good tourist itineraries and can save a lot of money on transportation.

Tibet Weather Forecast: Snow Showers to Hit North & East Tibet
According to Tibet Meteorological Station, the northern and eastern regions of Tibet, including Ngari, Nakchu, Chamdo and Nyingchi, is to be hit by snow showers this week.
From Dec 11th to Dec 12th, Ngari and western Nakchu will be overcast with snow showers, while it will be sunny and cloudy in Chamdo and Nyingchi. From Dec 14th to Dec 16th, overcast and snow showers will continue in Nakchu, Chamdo and Nyingchi, while other regions will be cloudy. In addition, the northern Tibet and the southern boundary will be partially attacked by fresh gales.
