Transportation of Everest Base Camp to Improved

Published : 3:40 A.M. EST, May 28, 2007
To ensure the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay across Mt. Everest, the road between Everest Base Camp and Tingri County in Shigatse will be rebuilt into bituminous macadam.

This section of road, with a length of 108 kilometers (112 miles), is the only way leading to Mt. Everest. It is said that this project will be invested with a budget of 150 million CNY, and will strictly accord with the environmental friendly concept. The rebuilt two-way road will be of a high standard, with guardrails on either side.
