Published : 4:10 A.M. EST, Sep 24, 2007
Zanda Clay Forest National Geopark in Ngari Region of Tibet was formally founded on September 22nd.

Zanda Clay Forest is located in the Zanda County of Ngari, the 'Roof of the Roof of the World'. With a total area of 2,464 square kilometers (608,867 acres), it is the largest and most distinctive clay forest that was formed due to the air-slaking of the tertiary stratum. The best grown area of the landform, 3,750 – 4,450 meters (12,303 – 14,600 feet) high and 888 square kilometers (219,429 acres) large, centers at Tholing Town.

The foundation of the geopark gives a good opportunity for the development and protection of the Zanda Clay Forest. And the local government has planned to make it to be the first world geopark of Tibet within 10 years.
