Lhasa Lalu Wetland to Open after Spring Festival

Reports from Lhasa said that Lalu Wetland will be opened to public after the Spring Festival, February 18, 2007. Visitors can view the wetland in the observation platform for free.

Lalu Wetland is the biggest as well as the highest incity natural wetland of China, which was listed into National Natural Reserve on July 23, 2005. Due to the frequent propaganda in recent years, more and more tourists come to visit this unique scenic spots of Lhasa. The observation platform will be finished before Spring Festival to welcome tourists from both home and abroad.

Tibet Museum to Open Free for Three Days during the Tibetan New Year

News from Tibet Museum said that for a better service to citizens and visitors, Tibet Museum will be opened as usual during the Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival. Plus, the museum will be opened for free for three days.

Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival meet together this year, so February 18th is the first day of the New Year according to the Tibetan Calendar and Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Tibet Museum will be opened cost-free on Feb. 18th, 19th and 20th.

Tibet Sport Authority: Countdown for the Preparation of 2008 Olympic Torch Relay

As a feature of 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Olympic torch relay on the highest mountain of the world, Mt. Qomolangma (Mt. Everest), has been well prepared according to the presentation of Tibet Sport Authority (abbr. TSA).

The vice director general of TSA said that the mountaineers who want to be candidates must have the climbing experience on mountains over 8,000 meters (26,247 ft). Most of the candidates, including several female mountaineers, have more than once experience on reaching the peak of Mt. Qomolangma. For a better record of the torch relay, some of them were trained photography in China Central Television (CCTV) and Communication University of China.

Lhasa Liuwu Coach Station to Launch Soon

It is reported that the fourth coach station of Lhasa, Liuwu Coach Station, has already finished construction and will be launched soon.

Located to the west of Lhasa Railway Station, Liuwu Coach Station is the a six-storey building comprising of booking office and waiting rooms in the first floor, dining room in the second floor, hotel in the third, fourth and fifth floor, as well as the offices in the six floor. It is expected that three routes, Lhasa to Shigatse, Lhasa to Shannan and Lhasa to Nyingchi, will be operated by Liuwu Coach Station. Detailed operation time will be finalized after Liuwu Bridge opens to traffic.
