Spring Rains Greet Tibet

According to the Tibet Meteorological Observatory, from Apr.6th to Apr.10th, most regions of Tibet will appear evident rainfalls, including the capital Lhasa which has been suffering from dryness for nearly half a year.

Influenced by the northern cold airflow, from Apr.6th to Apr.7th, it is cloudy and overcast in Nakchu, Chamdo and Nyingchi, with light snow or light rain within some regions. From Apr.8th to Apr.10th, Nyingchi will meet light to moderate rains or snows, with heavy rains partly. And there are light to moderate snows or rains in Chamdo, Shannan and Nakchu, while in Lhasa and Shigatse it will be overcast, with light rains or snows.

The meteorological experts tell that these rainfalls are quite beneficial for the farming work in spring and the growing of crops. However, with the strong rainfalls and increase of snows in the high areas, the eastern regions will be easily exposed to geologic disasters, demanding more precaution work.

Tibet is a region with distinct rainy and dry seasons. The full rainy season comes after June, when Tibet will be filled with high quantity of oxygen and fresh air, and it is very fit for traveling there.

The present circulated tourist map made by the surveying and mapping department is the 2003 edition, which is too old and not realistic. Besides, the market is also mixed with various piratical and illegally printed tourist maps which may confuse the tourists.

The 2007 edition map is based on the new data of a large-scale aerial survey of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping of China. For the purpose of tourism, the mapping department has also had a field survey of all the blocks, official departments, restaurants and hotels in Lhasa, and applied advanced techniques to ensure the veracity of the map.

The first draft work of the map has been finished now. It is a folio paper, and will be launched all over Tibet late April or early May.
