Qinghai-Tibet Railway Welcomed its first Anniversary

On Jul. 1^st, Qinghai-Tibet Railway had welcomed its first anniversary day since the opening of the last July.

Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the highest and longest rail road on the plateau of the world. It has successfully overcome the three worldly difficulties of long-year icy earth, mountain sickness and fragile environment, and linked the 'Roof of the World' to the hinterland of China. The launch of the railway has greatly facilitated the tourism and the relevant industries of Tibet, widely spread the local culture of Tibet, and increased the communication between Tibet and the rest of the world.

According to the report of the Railway Ministry on Jun. 29^th, between last July and this end of June, Qinghai-Tibet Railway has transported over 2 million passengers, and over 11 million tons (24 billion pounds) cargos, without any serious accidents having happened.
