Ramoche Monastery

Constructed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the Ramoche Monastery has a long history. It is located on the northern side of the Barkhor Street , neighboring the Jokhang Temple .
It is said that the Ramoche Monastery was built by workers from Princess Wencheng's hometown. That's the reason why this building is in the style of the Tang Dynasty. The main gate of the Ramoche Monastery faces eastward to commemorate the princess' longing for her birthplace and her beloved parents as well. The Ramoche Monastery is divided into three storeys. A splendid, glistening golden hall is located on the third floor. In addition, large statues of Sakyamuni and Maitreya can be found in this monastery. These vivid, incredible statues greatly enhance the beauty of the Ramoche Monastery.
